WHAT A CHANGE!!! I can not believe after 2 months of mostly 50-70 degree weather it can change so fast! I'm just glad I didn't have to be on the road today with the 40 mph winds and light snow from 3pm to 5pm. I did, however, have to drive home at 5:00 pm, during rush hour, with all the scaredy cat drivers. The radio stations didn't help matters. They kept announcing...the roads are slick, be careful, don't call the police unless your care isn't movable or there are injuries. I think this makes all the scaredy cat drivers even more cautious. So I ended up driving home at 10 mph on the interstate, where it was 25% dry and people slamming on their brakes every 5 minutes. It wasn't until I got to my neighborhood that my tires slid a little going up a small incline.
The entire drive home I kept thinking...JUST DRIVE PEOPLE!!! I understand that you need to be cautious while driving in these conditions, but it is under an inch of snow. It should be a clue to you that you are driving too cautious when there is a line of 10-15 people, bumper to bumper behind you and no one ahead of you. Another clue is when you are on the interstate and people are passing you on the left and right and they keep getting into the lane ahead of you. To all the scaredy cat drivers out there...just drive, be aware of everything and everyone around you, don't slam on your breaks when you get close to someone ahead of you and above all use your turn signal!
I try not to be one of those drivers...you know the ones who flash their bright lights at you if you aren't going fast enough for them, the ones who speed past you when you are being cautious only to go into the ditch a few miles ahead. I guess when you drive 1000 miles a week for work, you get a little more comfortable behind the wheel and aren't quite as scared. But, if you see a white Dodge Caravan, being driven by a plump red head woman...get out of the way!!!
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I FINALLY made it home, my husband has made it home, dinner is started. Bell rehearsal has been cancelled so we can play with our pooch, cuddle on the couch and drink some nice hot tea and watch some great TV. I am also hoping for at least a late start for some of my schools so I can sleep in tomorrow morning too. Is that TOO much to ask?? maybe...
