All you need is love....and a dog!

No, we don't have children.

Yes, we have a dog.

I do realize that a dog is NOT a substitute for a child, but I can promise you that my dog gives us joy, love and plenty of kisses.

We just arrived home from a small outing to see a college roommate of mine in Des Moines.  She, her husband and 2 kids are visiting another college friend and family for a couple of weeks and they took some time out of their Adventureland visit to meet us for dinner.  It was great! I haven't seen these two girls for 15 years.  I felt like we could visit for hours and just scratch the surface on what has been happening for the last years.  But, as always, the conversation turns to the 4, age 6 and under kids.

Let me preface this by saying...we have nieces and nephews we have been around for several years, we love kids and understand they all have an expiration date when it comes to restaurants.   Especially in the middle of an amusement park visit.  It doesn't bother me that you want to pay more attention to your kids during the meal, it doesn't bother me that you need to serve your kids first and it doesn't bother me when your kids are talking, wiggling and running around.  Just don't assume that because we don't have kids we can't tolerate and maybe even revel in the activity.  Give us a chance to get to know your kids.

The fact we don't have kids is not a choice.  It just hasn't happened for us.  The reasons are fairly private, but just understand...we did not choose not to have kids.  I know, there is always adoption but let's face it, that route is HARD!

So, we have a dog.  We have nieces and nephews and friend's kids....and most of all, each other.

That's all we need.
